Understand a location answer

Why does a website show another city?

Some websites guess from your internet connection. A VPN, mobile carrier or company network can make that guess differ from your device position. The IP-location view explains the network estimate shown when you arrive. Choose device location for a more precise point.

A county, a city and a ZIP are different answers

A city, its county and its mailing ZIP can cover different areas. If you are filling out a form, open the county result for its full name and code, or check what the ZIP area result means for mail.

Find somewhere outdoors

Use this same point to compare the nearest national park points or mapped beaches. Straight-line distances help compare locations; check an entrance before choosing a drive.

If your location looks wrong

Check whether you allowed precise location in your browser or phone settings. Indoors, a fresh position may still cover a wide area. The accuracy circle belongs to the device fix; extra decimal places do not shrink it. You can type coordinates or search a city instead. A city search uses a point inside that city, not your current position.

What this page cannot tell you

Street-address lookup is not connected. A ZIP area is not an official delivery ZIP. For tax, voting or jury questions, confirm the jurisdiction with the responsible government office. A network estimate cannot settle a legal jurisdiction.
